Home Remedies – 30 Useful Tips

Posted by vankd123 on May 12, 2009

I’m not someone that likes taking medicines for all kinds of different things. I don’t like using all kinds of harmful chemicals in my house, on my body, on my kids, on my dogs, or anywhere for that matter. I think the amount of waste and pollution in this country is something that we should all be ashamed of. It is also something that each of us can do something about.

Disposable products, single serving products, chemical sprays, fertilizers, weed killers, bug repellents, and so many more of today’s products are just so harmful. And they just keep coming out with more toxic products to spray everywhere and dump in our landfills. There are simpler and less toxic ways to most anything. So I have compiled a list of some things that can really help out around the house and yard.

Here are 30 useful remedies for everyday problems. Interesting tips on everything from bug killer to skin care- All using everyday products already in our homes, or easily available most anywhere. I’ve tried all of these tips, and they all passed the test. So I’m passing them along to you. Every mom should have a copy of this list. Every doctor should too.

Home Remedies for Everyday Problems

1. Repel Mosquitos –

Put some Antiseptic Mouthwash in a spray bottle and spray around your chair, your deck, your window frames, your door jams, etc… Even in the dog house. Mosquitoes don’t seem to like it. I’m not sure why it works, but it does.

2. Personal Mosquito Repellent –

Take a Dryer Sheet and rub it on yourself to Repel Mosquitoes. Stick the Dryer Sheet in a shirt or pants pocket for extra protection.

3. Eliminate Ear Mites –

All it takes is a few drops of Corn Oil in your pet’s ear…Massage it in, then clean with a cotton ball. Repeat daily for 3 days. The oil soothes the animal’s skin, smothers the mites, and accelerates healing.

4. Kill Fleas on your pet –

Dawn Dish Liquid does the trick. Add a few drops to your pet’s bath and shampoo the animal thoroughly. Rinse well to avoid irritating the skin. Wash the fleas down the drain.

5. Cure Dog Odor –

Next time your dog comes in from the rain, wipe it down with any Dryer Sheet, making your dog smell springtime fresh.

6. Facial Cleansing Mask

Give your face a generous coat of Elmer’s School Glue. Let it dry thoroughly. After the mask is completely dry, peel away blackheads, dead skin, and unwanted facial hair. Tones and refreshes skin.

7. Headache Relief –

Drinking two glasses of Gatorade can relieve headache pain almost immediately without the unpleasant side effects caused by traditional “pain relievers.”

8. Burn Relief –

Plain White Toothpaste makes an excellent salve for burns.

9. Jewelry Cleaner –

Plain White Tooth Paste and a soft bristled Tooth Brush will clean your jewelry to a bright shine.

10. Sunburn Relief –

Noxema Skin Cream makes a wonderfully soothing sunburn relief cream.

11. Relieve A Stuffy Nose –

Instead of a high-priced nasal spray filled with mysterious chemicals, try chewing on a couple of Altoids Peppermints. They’ll clear up your stuffed nose.

12. Relieve Achy Muscles –

Mix 1 Tablespoon of Horseradish in 1 cup of Olive Oil. Let the mixture sit for 30 minutes, then apply it as massage oil, for instant relief for aching muscles.

13. Sore Throat Relief –

Just mix 1/4 cup of Vinegar with 1/4 cup of Honey and take 1 tablespoon six times a day. The vinegar kills the bacteria.

14. Cure a Urinary Tract Infection –

Just dissolve two Alka Seltzer tablets in a glass of water and drink it at the onset of the symptoms. Alka-Seltzer begins eliminating urinary tract infections almost instantly– even though the product has never been advertised for this use.

15. Remedy for Skin Blemishes –

Cover the blemish with a dab of Honey and place a Band-Aid over it. Honey kills the bacteria, keeps the skin sterile, and speeds healing. Works overnight.

16. Therapy for Toenail Fungus –

Get rid of toenail fungus by soaking your toes in Antiseptic Mouthwash. The powerful antiseptic leaves your toenails looking healthy again. The original brown works the best.

17. Easy Eyeglass Protection –

To prevent the screws in eyeglasses from loosening, apply a small drop of Nail Polish to the threads of the screws before tightening them.

18. Cleaning Spray/Bug Killer –

If menacing bees, wasps, hornets, or yellow jackets get in your home and you can’t find the insecticide, try a spray of Formula 409. It kills on contact.

19. Splinter Remover –

Just pour a drop of Elmer’s Glue-All over the splinter, let dry, and peel the dried glue off the skin. The splinter sticks to the dried glue.

20. Cure Boils –

Cover the boil with a Tomato Paste compress. The acids from the tomatoes soothe the pain and bring the boil to a head.

21. Cure Yeast Bumps –

Apply Miconazole Nitrate Cream (Monistat 7) to the area. Yeast bumps look similar to boils, but are caused by yeast in the blood stream. Oil of Oregano pills can be purchased at most any health food store and can help correct the internal problem.

22. Balm for Blisters –

To disinfect a broken blister, dab on a few drops of Antiseptic Mouthwash on it, the mouthwash is a powerful antiseptic.

23. To Heal Bruises –

Soak a Cotton Ball in White Vinegar and apply it to the bruise for 1 hour. The vinegar reduces the blueness and speeds up the healing process.

24. Soothe Arthritis Pain –

Mix 2 cups of Oat Meal and 1 cup of water in a bowl and heat in the microwave for 1 minute, let cool slightly, and apply the mixture to your hands for relief from arthritis pain.

25. Quiet a Child’s Cough at Night –

Apply a generous coat of Vic’s Vapor Rub to the child’s feet and cover with socks. It warms and the feet, stops the coughing, and soothes the child to sleep. Use instead of cough syrups containing harmful chemicals. This also works just as well on adults. It really helps you sleep.

26. Keep Harmful Bugs Out of the Garden and Flower Beds –

Planting Marigolds between your garden crops and in your flower beds will keep the “bad bugs” away by attracting the “beneficial bugs” , such as lady bugs, to your site. Lady Bugs and others in this family are extremely beneficial to any garden or flower bed. By creating a balanced ecosystem in your area, you reduce the need for pesticides and other toxins, there by helping us all.

27. To Kill Fungus on Plants –

Mix Antiseptic Mouthwash 50/50 with Distilled Water in a spray bottle and spray on your infected plant. The mouthwash acts as a fungicide and kills the fungus. I’ve even poured the mixture directly onto the soil around the plant to kill any fungus in the soil that may be attacking the plant. It works great.

28. Burn Relief –

Aloe is amazing for burns of any kind. Slice off a whole leaf (or more) of an Aloe Plant, peel the green outer cover away, and shave the clear inner cellulose into a bowl. Place into a blender or food processor with a small amount of distilled water (Aloe 80% – Water 20%) and blend into a smooth mixture. Apply to any burn. This mixture can be put into a squeeze bottle and kept in the refrigerator for quite a while. It works wonderfully.

29. Leather Treatment –

Indian Hemp hair and scalp treatment works wonders on dry stiff leather. Apply it just as you would any expensive leather treatment and rub it in. It softens and does a great job waterproofing and protecting your leather. Coconut Oil works quite well too. I’ve used them both for years on my leather.

30. Re-Usable Containers –

Now this is a no brainer. We all buy things like margarine, sour cream, yogurt, and other products that come in plastic containers with re-sealable lids. We use the product inside and throw the container away. Then while at the grocery store, we buy some of the “Newest Fad Items” like those disposable re-sealable containers. Intended to be used a few times then thrown away. With millions of cubic tons of trash (made up of mostly disposable products) going into our landfills everyday, this is a process that I can not understand. Instead buying such “Fad” products, I hope people will come to their senses and use what is already in their kitchens, and limit their useless waste.

All these Remedies are Tried and True. Try ’em out and see.

And please, everyone do your part in making the world a cleaner and better place. Avoid using toxic stuff everywhere. Use natural products any where you can. Make the most of the items you would normally waste. With a small effort on everyone’s part, we can make a huge difference in the world.
